Shadows of a paper stadium model
I trimmed symmetrical patterns on a squared drawing paper and fold the paper into a structure of a stadium. The paper stadium is then attached to a cardboard which acts as the base. With the aid of a torch and a white backing board, I am able to observe the structure of the model in different angles when I rotate the cardboard base.

Chinese Calligraphy
I like how Chinese calligraphy demonstrates the elegance of Chinese characters with the simplest colour- black. The textures of every stroke made by different strength and angles used create a balanced picture with variations in every word.

Chinese Ink Painting

Chinese Ink Painting
Through Chinese ink painting, I learn to appreciate the nature. I love the harmonious impression Chinese Ink paintings show with subtle colours and the layering effect created with the use of water.

The architecture course of MSA is one of the best in the United Kingdom. I am attracted by the rich resources and experienced staff members in the department , as well as the outstanding record of graduate achievement. The emphasis on both culture and technology of the course matches with my ideology of Architecture. Learning in diversified approaches can assist me in developing my potentials in both written and studio work. The strong links with architectural firms and experts are likely to assist me to gain hands-on experiences in actual working environment. With both academic excellence and ample resources, I trust that I can enjoy my university experience fully.

I visited the Park Güell at Barcelona in August 2012. The lower court of the park created an area for the exchange of cultural ideas. People usually focus on the beautiful design of the park with colourful statues and decorative mosaics. Yet I see Antoni Gaudi’s ideals in the residential architecture through the extensive and well-developed road systems. The footpaths built with stones, columns which imitate tree trunks, curves of the terrace walls and animal statues at the entrance of the park integrates the architecture with the nature. The blending of the architecture with the landscape created a harmonious environment for the visitors.

My favourite architect is Norman Foster. I first encounter him in a video clip introducing the Hong Kong International Airport, which he designed. His designs are sustainable and can often take care of the needs of different stakeholders, compromising cost, environment and users’ needs. The Great Court of the British Museum designed by Foster and Partners is a good demonstration of his aesthetic standards and ability to design. The Great Court created new areas for the museum and facilitate the functions of the museum. The magnificent glass and steel roof contrasts with the Greek revival style of the quadrangle building. His pursuit for excellence and beauty attracts me and I dream to work as a subordinate of Foster and Partners.

I would like to visit the Empire State Building in New York. Being the American cultural icon, it is one of the tallest buildings in the United States. Having designed with Art Deco style, it has a bold shape with an ornamental pointed top. After seeing the Asian movie “The Love of Empire State Building”, I build great love for the building and find how the it links the story very interesting. The scenery of the city shot on the top of the Empire State Building is breath-taking, other buildings looks like legos viewing from 102 storeys above the ground.
